What should you be using—a circle or sacred space?

A circle is a formally defined temple in which the everyday world and the world of the gods meet. This place is where you can connect with the gods in a ritual fashion. A circle is cast or raised as a ceremonial way of crafting a temple in which to commune or worship.

Sacred space, on the other hand, is an informal area that has been purified and blessed, cleansed of any negative or unsupportive energy, but not formally separated from the surrounding environment. Nor does it have a boundary that will keep negative or other energy away.

You may feel more comfortable creating a formal circle in which to work the rituals in this book, or you may prefer the simpler sacred space. Your desires or needs may vary according to how you feel that day or depending on how formal you wish your observance to be.
